Feel free to suggest more ideas by replying to this post.
Sacred Rules: 1. Don't even think about leaving halfway through; a risk event often lasts longer than 2-3 hours, and interrupting it is sacred. 2. Never OP a game just because you want to be a player in risk; OP a game in the mindset for OPing for fun. 3. OPing whilst being a country is acceptable; making decisions based upon being a player and not as a GM is not.
Now that we have that out of the way, here are a few tips:
Don't remove AFK players unless they're not relevant and have only rolled once or not at all Add random events, but if you're playing as well keep rule 3 in mind. Atlas' Cthulhu ending game is a great example of this. Guide generals for countries who need it. Don't let that 50 bonus country get a general, make that person general for that small country. Interpret rolls in the eyes of the player; make it the most beneficial to countries as possible. Limit alliances to a certain number depending on the map; snip allyfagging at its roots. Remember that each thread has a 300 post limit. Keep an eye on it, and create a new thread when it nears that number or passes it.

When removing a player that is afk and had not said so I give 10 rolls before they are removed. Sometimes I leave the country to be reclaimed.

Be patient with the noobs. New players are always welcomed, please don't go around rule sharking them. Then they don't wanna play and we get less players which means halfull games which is boring as hell.
